Paragliding
Paragliding is an activity that evolved from the standard parachute and as it gains popularity it is becoming more and more accepted as a sport. In Ecuador alone there are many people who support and enjoy paragliding. About five years ago gliders started taking off from the Niton Mountain in the Pelileo Canton and a flight school was opened shortly thereafter.
The school teaches the methods of individual flight as well as more advanced methods such as tandem, a two-person flight in which the pilot is responsible for the safe take-off and landing of the paraglider.
For tourists or anyone interested in learning how to paraglide, there is a course offered that teaches the basic skills of paragliding. The school is currently working with the "Escuela PARAPENTE Ambato Club" (PAC), an organization that has several years of experience training with Swiss paragliding schools. There are currently a fair amount of people who practice individual paragliding and very few pilots in this region who practice tandem.
