What to do as a couple in Baños? | Geotours | Adventure Travel Tour Agency in Baños Ecuador since 1991

Baños de Agua Santa is located in the center-east of Ecuador in the province of Tungurahua, under the slopes of the Tungurahua volcano. Baños is known as the “Door to the Ecuadorian Amazon”, since it is the last canton before entering the Amazon if one travels from Ambato.

The good thing about Baños de Agua Santa is that it is a small city, where you do not need a car to get around. The most distant attractions such as La Mano de la Pachamama, the Swing at the End of the World and the Route of the Waterfalls can be reached by chivas (buses) or by public transport that can be taken at the land terminal in Baños.

The options that we recommend doing as a couple are:

1. The Tree House (The Swing at the End of the World)

The essential activity on your list of the best things to do in Baños is to ride the swing at the End of the World. Surely you have seen this photo before, the one of a swing in the abyss with the Tungurahua volcano in the background. It is without a doubt an instagrammable place to take your best photos.

The famous Banos Tree House Swing is a small tree on top of a hill with a large swing that has the best view of the Tungurahua volcano.

You can get there either by bus, private car or on foot. The walk is quite long but still worth it. Admission to the tree house is $1.00 USD.

2. Walk through the center of Baños de Agua Santa

Baños de Agua Santa is a small city but with many recreation options both during the day and at night. So we recommend you explore the city and enjoy the atmosphere of Baños at both times.

Be sure to visit the Basilica of Our Lady of Holy Water and the Museum of the Holy Water Basilica. The Basilica Nuestra Señora del Agua Santa is the main church located in the largest square in Baños.

Tip: Baños is a relatively safe city, so feel comfortable walking around Baños both during the day and at night.

3.The Waterfalls Route

The Route of the Waterfalls, is another one of the great attractions and essential things to do in Baños. The route runs 18 km from Baños to Río Verde. The Ruta de las Cascadas is the number one reason why you should visit Baños; there are more than a dozen of waterfalls along this route.

You can rent a bike or go by “Chiva”, which is a rustic handmade bus used in Ecuador.

The waterfalls on the route are: Puerta del Cielo waterfall, Manto de la Novia waterfall, Agoyán waterfall, Guamal waterfall, San Pedro waterfall and of course Pailón del Diablo. For the latter, you need at least 1 hour to go and really enjoy the hike. It's amazing how big the waterfall is, plus you can get under it and feel the force of the water. Without a doubt, it is the most spectacular waterfall of all and something obligatory to see in Baños.

In addition, we have the Free Guided promotion, which is a good option to enjoy as a couple. Ask us about this option.

4. Enjoy the Hot Springs Spas

Its hot spring pools were the original reason that put Baños on the map as a national and international tourist destination. Natural pools with medicinal properties are everywhere, both outside and inside the city.

The most famous spa is Termas de la Virgen, which is located near the “Cabellera de la Virgen” waterfall, right in the center of Baños. The hot springs are open from Monday to Sunday from 4:00 AM to 5:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Admission is $2USD per person.

5. Excursion of one day or more to the Ecuadorian Amazon

Baños is less than an hour's drive from Puyo, so we recommend that you don't miss out on one of the greatest wonders that Ecuador has, its Amazon Jungle.

6. Pachamama's Hand (Mano Pachamama)

This viewpoint is a piece of art with a platform that resembles a hand painted in a very special way and giving recognition to the nature that surrounds Baños. La Mano de la Pachamama is located within the “El Vuelo del Cóndor” complex in the Runtún sector, 7 km from the center of the city of Baños.
