La Laguna Azul is a geopark in the province of Napo Cantón del Tena and is located in the municipality of Talag. This park contains granite rocks corresponding to the Abitagua granite from the Middle to Lower Jurassic period (174 to 178 Ma). The rocks have minerals such as feldaspars, portasicos, plagioclase and bionite; They are characterized by a pink hue and are part of the river beds.
There are lagoons or pools that have been formed by a mechanical measurement process. There are 4 pools and waterfalls formed by volcanic rock. This formation arises from the union of two rivers: Rio JatunYaku and Rio WaysaYaku. The inhabitants of the Kichwa community of Alakus are responsible for the management of this place and for receiving and taking care of tourists.
In La Laguna Azul there are pools, hammocks, trails and you can enjoy viewpoints with spectacular views of the Amazon's primary jungle. We recommend going after 10am to enjoy a better climate to swim in the pools.
It is also possible to taste the rich gastronomy of the Amazon that they offer within the complex. There is a restaurant where you can enjoy the view of the second pool, in addition there are also small shops where you can buy snacks and drinks. You can enjoy delicious roasted plantains or roasted corn.
How do you get there?
If you come by car from the town of Tena, you have to take the Pano-Talag road and travel about 23 km. Then you will come on a 7 km dirt road until you finally reach La Laguna Azul. The Maps or Google Maps applications will not indicate this dirt road, but don't worry because at the entrance there is a large sign indicating the way.
You can also go to the bus station of Tena, there is a bus from the transport cooperative "Centinela del Tena" which runs regularly every day. The schedule is as follows:
