Carihuairazo - 2 Day Summit Tour Description

The Carihuairazo volcano, located in the Chimborazo Wildlife Reserve and this in turn being part of the National Protection System of Ecuador, serves as a preservation site for the native llama, alpaca and vicuña. Expect to see these beautiful creatures wandering the land freely in the Reserve

On this trip, we will summit Carihuairazo’s Maxima peak at 5018 meters (16463 feet)!
The mountain itself has a huge top, opened to the north with two major peaks. The Mocha peak stands at 4960 meters (16273 feet) and was first summited in 1880. It wasn’t until 1951 that the Maxima peak (5018 meters/16463 feet) was conquered.

Carihuairazo - 2 Day Summit Tour Itinerary

1. Depart from the Geotours office in Baños for a three hour drive to the main entrance of the Carihuairazo climbing area.
2. Our first hike will bring us to the base of the glacier where we will set up camp and have lunch.
3. Guides will give a safety and instruction briefing about the mountain and climbing techniques necessary for the trip.
4. Spend the evening enjoying the fresh, clean mountain air and preparing the equipment for an early morning departure. 

Día 2

1. At 6:00 am we begin our climb up the glacier to the base of the Maxima peak.
2. A rigorous four hour adventure lies ahead as we ascend to an altitude of 5018 meters (16463 feet) to the summit of Carihuairazo!
3. Our descent to camp will be followed by lunch and a relaxing ride back to Baños.
4. This experience will be sure to exhilarate even the most seasoned mountain climber!
5. Departure: 10:00 on Day 1
6. Return: Approx. 17:00 on Day 2
