If you are the type of person who likes physical activity and don't want to break your exercise routine while traveling through Ecuador, you should try this tour that combines hike and bike in the Chimborazo (6268 m). On our tour you'll know what it feels to be on the closest point to the sun! You'll hike to 5000 m to admire the beauty of the Andean landscapes that you can only truly appreciate from above, then descend by bike through desert roads full of rock and dust.

This tour is really a challenge, but above all it is pure adventure and fun for adrenaline lovers and for those who don't mind getting dirty. Hike & Bike Chimborazo – Full Day Tour Itinerary

  1. Our day will begin by departing Baños in a private van and driving to Chimborazo, Ecuador’s tallest mountain, approximately 3 hours away.
  2. Once there, our ride will take us through varied terrain, from lush mountain greenery to a dry and rocky desert.
  3. Our starting point will be the Hmos Carriel refuge, located at 4800 meters (15748 feet) above sea level!
  4. Named after the British climber who first conquered Chimborazo’s summit in the 1800s, Edward Whymper is the name of the second refuge, where we will arrive after a 40 minute hike.
  5. From there we climb to the Thilman Glacier at 5000 m, to explore the icy rocks and marvel at the surrounding views.
  6. Upon our arrival back at Hmos Carriel we will hop on our bikes to begin the second part of the tour.
  7. As you glide down the mountain roads be sure to enjoy the scenery while we make our way to the village of San Juan or Riobamba.
  8. On the ride back to Baños be sure to keep your eyes on the lookout for wildlife, in particular the alpacas and vicuña that roam free on the surrounding lands.
