Join us for a once-in-a-lifetime journey to Chimborazo Volcano — the closest point on Earth to the sun. This full-day tour combines high-altitude hiking with an exhilarating bike descent, all set in the breathtaking landscapes of the Ecuadorian Andes.

 

Tour Itinerary

08:30 – Departure from Baños

  • Meet at the Geotours office.
  • Private transport (approx. 3 hours) to Chimborazo Reserve.
  • Enjoy scenic views shifting from lush mountain greenery to high-altitude deserts.

Arrival at Hermanos Carrel Refuge (4,800 m / 15,748 ft)

  • Starting point of our hike.
  • Learn about the history of the mountain and early summit attempts.

Hike to Edward Whymper Refuge (5,000 m / 16,404 ft)

  • 40-minute trail with breathtaking panoramic views.
  • Time for rest, photos, and altitude adaptation.

Optional Exploration of Thilman Glacier

  • Short climb to the glacier (weather and fitness permitting).
  • Explore ice formations and ancient volcanic rocks.

Return to Hermanos Carrel Refuge

  • Rest stop and box lunch.
  • Get ready for the biking portion.

 

High-Altitude Bike Descent

 

Downhill Ride Begins

  • End point: San Juan or Riobamba area, depending on group pace and conditions.

 

 Wildlife Spotting & Return to Baños
