Illiniza Volcano - 2 Day Expedition Description

Located between Pichincha and Cotopaxi provinces, the Illinizas are twin volcanic peaks that offer a variety of difficulty levels suitable for all kinds of mountain climbers.

North Illiniza stands at 5126 meters (16818 feet) and is relatively simple to climb. Expert climbers will be excited for the technical and steep climb to the summit of South Illiniza, at 5305 meters (17405 feet).

Illiniza Volcano - 2 Day Expedition Itinerary

Day 1

1. Our journey to the snowy Illinizas begins in Baños where we leave the Geotours office in our comfortable van.
2. Upon arrival at the entry point, we will hike for approximately 3 hours to the shelter for lunch.
3. The rest of the day is spent with the guide and learning climbing techniques and safety procedures.
4. After dinner we will relax and get excited for the amazing day ahead!

Day 2

1. In order to reach the summit of North Illiniza we will leave the shelter at 7:00 am and spend the day marveling at the wonders of nature during our trek.
2. Climbers will be in awe of the magnificent landscapes below the 5126 meters (16818 feet) high crown.
3. We will descend the mountain and head back to beautiful Baños with memories that are sure to last a lifetime.
4. Departure: 10:00 on Day 1
5. Return: Approx. 17:00 on Day 2
